ENDEMIK - is one of the first private medical establishments in Lithuania that was established after the restoration of independence; it started its operation in 1989. Human papilloma viruses (HPV) are parasites of epithelial tissue cells. Some HPV types can cause cervical cancer or genital warts, less often - oncological pathologies of other genital organs. HPV types oncogenicity of high oncological risk is determined by the so-called early protein E6 and E7 genes in their genome. When these genes reach, for example, the DNA of cervical epithelial cells, the cells begin to produce the E8 and E7 proteins, “breaking through” the two important body's defence lines against cancer: E6 protein inhibits the mechanism of neoplastic cell apoptosis, i.e. natural death, and the E7 protein disrupts the “brakes” of the DNA replication in neoplastic cells.
Girls who have not yet started their sexual life are completely risk-free of the HPV infection, therefore, it is the most appropriate time to acquire immunity to it. In fact, vaccine is the most effective for any woman whose body not yet has a dangerous virus, depending on her age. The routine vaccination with three doses of 4-valent HPV vaccine are recommended for girls 12 of years old, but you can also start from 9 years old. This choice of age is made on purpose. It is important that girls are vaccinated before their first sexual contact - before their any contact with HPV. According to the data of clinical trials, in this case the vaccine 100 percent protects against four HPV types of infection.
Less effective vaccine is for women and girls already infected with HPV, but some experts believe that even then, the vaccine protects against more serious consequences. Vaccination is also recommended for women of 13-26 years if they have not been previously vaccinated or did not complete the course of vaccination.
After vaccination, girls and women acquire the immunity for the four human papilloma virus (HPV) strains that are responsible for 70 percent of cervical cancer and 90 percent of genital wart cases.
